March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month

Healthy eating is an important part of reducing your risk for colon cancer.

Limit red and processed meat. Eating processed meat (deli meat, hot dogs, sausages, etc.) and red meat you consume (beef, pork, lamb, etc.) can raise your risk of colon cancer.

Eat fruits and vegetables with every meal. Evidence has shown that eating foods like fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains play a role in preventing cancer because these foods are high in fibre and nutrients. A diet that is high in fibre may help to decrease the risk of colon cancer.

Skip the junk food

Although fast food and processed foods can be more convenient, choose to fuel up with non- or minimally processed foods. You will feel better eating nutritious foods.
