Covid-19 Outbreak Update

COVID-19 Outbreak Announcement

July 25, 2022 – The North Shore Family Health Team and the North of Superior Healthcare Group (NOSH) are reporting that the COVID-19 outbreak that was declared at Wilkes Terrace Long Term Care Home on July 20th, 2022 has now been expanded to a site wide COVID-19 outbreak that included the chronic care and acute care wings.

In addition to the reported positives, an additional employee, three residents of Wilkes Terrace and two chronic care patients have now also tested positive for the virus.

The individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 are currently in self-isolation. All other residents and patients of McCausland Hospital continue to be asked to stay in their rooms to limit their contact with others and to reduce the risk of virus transmission.

NOSH update

To help contain any further spread of the virus, Wilkes Terrace and The McCausland Hospital will continue to restrict visitors until further notice.

All residents and inpatients, along with NOSH staff who work in Wilkes Terrace and The McCausland Hospital, will be closely monitored for symptoms and will undergo a surveillance swabbing protocol.  Additional measures, including increased infection prevention and control practices have already been put in place. NOSH will continue to work closely with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to manage the outbreak and to protect our patients and staff.
