Covid-19 Dashboard – 23 April 2021

The North of Superior Health Care Group (NOSH) and North Shore Family Health Team (NSFHT), are reporting that a COVID-19 Variant of Concern (VOC) has been identified in our communities. This VOC was identified from a previously announced active case.
Multiple variants of the virus that causes COVID-19 have been identified around the world. To date, the most common variant found in Ontario is the B.1.1.7 or UK variant. This VOC has been found to be spread more easily and quickly. However, currently there is no evidence to suggest that it will cause a more severe illness or increased risk of death. Additional sequencing will be done to confirm this result and to determine the variant type.
The best way to protect yourself against COVID-19 and its variants, is to continue to follow all current public health measures. This means staying at home as much as possible, interacting only with your household, and immediately isolate and call the assessment center at 825-3273 x136 if you get symptoms or believe you have been in contact with a positive case of COVID-19. When you do leave your home, be sure to wear a mask, physical distance and wash your hands. We also encourage everyone to get their vaccine when their turn comes in the prioritization, so far we have given 1133 vaccines to our community members.
